Europe’s train travel misery continues

Europe’s travel misery is not confined to the skies. At London’s St Pancras station, Eurostar passengers continued to face lengthy queues in their bid to make it to the continent before Christmas.

The bad weather has forced the cross-channel operator to run a limited service. It has advised passengers to only travel if their journey is essential.

One weary French passenger said: “It seems to be going quicker than yesterday, then again we should have taken our train yesterday evening. We arrived at three in the afternoon without knowing. They told us that if we didn’t join the queue from the morning, we wouldn’t have any chance.”

But, it is not only Eurostar which is struggling to meet passengers needs. The UK’s domestic rail network has also been frozen by the cold snap.

All East coast services between London and the northeast were suspended resulting in an arduous journey for many.

The reason for the disruption was fallen overhead power cables which completely paralysed the line. It resulted in hundreds of passengers in several locations between London and Peterborough being stranded.
