Taliban target Afghan army in twin attacks

world news

| |

Separate but simultaneous attacks in Kabul and Kunduz this morning suggest the Taliban is targeting the Afghan security forces.

In Kabul, insurgents opened fire on a bus full of recruits on their way to Afghanistan’s biggest military training centre.

At least five were killed and nine others injured.

At the same time in Kunduz, four suicide bombers stormed an army recruitment centre, killing at least four people.

Three of the attackers were shot dead but the fourth is thought to be still inside the centre.

Gunshots can be heard and the building is on fire with people believed to be trapped inside.

The attackers in Kabul were killed before they could detonate their explosives.

The Taliban has admitted being behind both attacks.
