Assange has spent nine days in jail after Sweden issued an arrest warrant for him over allegations of sexual misconduct with two female WikiLeaks volunteers. An accusation he denies.

Assange fears that a bigger and more difficult showdown is looming:

“One of the concerns that we’ve had since I’ve been in the UK is whether the extradition proceedings to Sweden, which is occurring in a very strange and unusual way is actually an attempt to get me into a jurisdiction which will then make it easier to extradite me to the United States.”

The Australian’s legal team believe the Americans are about to indict Assange.

WikiLeaks has caused fury and embarrassment in US political circles after the website published tens of thousands of leaked documents on Afghanistan and Iraq and the latest disclosures, the diplomatic cables.
