Julian Assange’s mother was in court for the hearing, and said she is relieved and happy that her son has been granted bail. Christine Assange flew to London to support him in his fight against extradition to Sweden over alleged sex crimes.

“I am very, very happy with the decision,” she said outside court. “I can’t wait to see my son and to hold him close. I had faith that the British justice system would do the right thing and that the judge would uphold the magistrate’s decision and that faith has been confirmed today. I want thank the legal team for all their good work and I would like to thank all the public and the public in Australia who stood up for justice today, and I’d like to thank the people who give sureties for my son so he could be free on bail and thank you for the media for your support…”
