Islamist website claims Swedish bomb blasts

Police in Stockholm investigating Saturday’s bomb blasts suspect the man who died was a suicide bomber and may have lived at one time in the UK.

As evidence continues to be gathered, an al-Qaeda-linked website said one of its militants had carried out the so called mission.

A photograph of the man it claimed had blown up his car and then himself was shown. It is believed to be 29-year-old Taimour Abdel Wahab.

Shortly before the two blasts which ripped through a busy shopping street, a Swedish news agency received an email threat with audio files including references to the Swedish military presence in Afghanistan.

Muslim leaders in the Swedish capital have expressed shock and concern as the police probe continues to point to an Islamic fundamentalist link.

Meanwhile over 100 Swedish Muslims held a peace rally in the centre of the capital last night.

The organisers condemned the attacks saying Sweden was an open society and they rejected what they described as the hijacking of their religion by extremists.
