Sweden’s most famous living poet wins Nobel prize This year’s Nobel Prize winners were honoured in Oslo and Stockholm on Friday.
The Norwegian Nobel Committee held a ceremony for Chinese dissident and peace prize winner Liu Xiaobo.
Meanwhile, human rights campaigners demonstrated outside to call on Beijing to free him.
Liu was one of the protest leaders in Tiananmen Square in 1989.
In Stockholm, this year’s laureates for medicine, chemistry, economics, physics and literature received their awards from King Carl Gustaf.
The winners then joined the royal family and dignitories for a banquet in their honour.
Peruvian writer and literature winner Mario Vargas Llosa later addressed the gala dinner at the Swedish capital’s city hall.
