Iran’s state-run Press TV aired on Saturday what the channel says is a murder confession by Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani, the woman sentenced to death by stoning for adultery.

The half-hour film appears to show Ashtiani admitting to killing her husband before acting out her alleged role in his death.

Press TV did not give any explanation why Ms Ashtiani agreed to take part in the documentary.

She claims she sedated her husband and then electrocuted him with the help of her lover.

Ashtiani’s case sparked an international outcry and Iran suspended the stoning sentence.

However, officials insist she has been convicted of her husband’s murder and she remains on death row.
