From MasterCard to the Swedish government, websites seen as being against WikiLeaks and its controversial founder are being hijacked by hackers.

Visa was among the targets, after blocking payments to the whistle-blowing body. Other firms, too, have been hit in an apparent hi-tech rebellion by WikiLeaks supporters.

As for the site’s revelations, the head of NATO told euronews about the dangers he sees to diplomacy.

“If there is a risk that confidential talks will be made public, then this channel will be destroyed or damaged and this is, of course, the reason why we

condemn this action,” said the military alliance’s Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen.

In custody in London, WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange did not order the cyber strikes according

to his main lawyer there. As media interest in the Australian’s internet exploits soars, he is having to focus on clearing his name over claims of sex offences in Sweden.
