It is feared global warming is causing methane gas to be released from Siberia’s frozen ground at a dangerous rate.

As the earth warms, Siberia’s permafrost is thawing increasingly fast, accelerating the release of methane, a greenhouse gas 23 times more powerful than carbon dioxide.
