Euronews spoke to the celebrated Ivory Coast singer Tiken Jah Fakoly, who is currently on tour in Switzerland. He told us he hoped his country would not descend into violence.
Fakoly: “I call on all Ivorian people to stay calm. We don’t want more dead people. People have fought enough. I just want the majority of the Ivorian people who have chosen their president, and the international community, to find the solutions that will enable the elected president to be installed.”
Euronews: In terms of the role of the international community, what are you expecting, as someone who lives overseas?
Fakoly: I’m hoping that the international community does everything it can to re-establish democracy, which was on the right track. I think we got off to a good start, and it would be a shame if all of these good efforts by all Ivorians … and the effort of the international community, all of the money spent by Ivorians and the international community to get this far, it would be a real shame if all of that went to waste.”
