South Korea carries out a test-firing of its surface-to-air missiles, as tension mounts on the divided peninsula.
Official news agency reports say that Seoul has, for the first time, deployed missiles to the frontline Yeonpyong Island – scene of an attack by the North last month.
There has also been a high-profile visit to the Demilitarized Zone and inspections of a nearby base for combat readiness.
Seoul has admitted it ignored intelligence warning of last month’s attack.
The government’s head of intelligence also said the recent joint military exercise with the US is likely to prompt the North to respond.
In Seoul, protestors were joined by veterans of the Korean War.
They are angry at what they say is provocation by the North. Some also think the government’s response to events has been weak.
