"40 killed" in Israeli brush fire

A massive forest fire in Israel has killed an estimated 40 people, according to rescue services.

Several people are said to have been injured.

Hundreds of people have been evacuated from the areas near the Carmel Forest, near Haifa in the north of the country.

They include inmates from a prison housing Palestinians. Israeli media say a bus transporting the prisoners was trapped by the flames.

Amid high temperatures for the season, flames have been spreading through the undergrowth in the countryside.

It is one of the worst such fires that Israel has suffered in years.
