Saudi Arabia has arrested 149 people suspected of having links to al Qaeda over the last 8 months.

Guns and the equivalent of more than 450,000 euros in cash were confiscated by the authorities.

Computers were also seized.

Many of the suspects travelled to the area of Mecca around the time of the Muslim pilgrimages of Hajj and Umra in Saudi Arabia. Once there, they allegedly attempted to spread their doctrine and collect money from the visiting faithful.

The militants come from a total of 19 cells based in Bangladesh, Eritrea, Somalia, Saudi Arabia and Yemen.
