Russia’s state-owned bank VEB is reportedly in talks to buy 3.5 percent of E.ON Ruhrgas’s share in Gazprom. The German utility could make nearly 3.4 billion euros from the sale. Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, who is VEB’s board chairman, is likely to discuss the deal with German leader Angela Merkel in Berlin on Friday.

VEB and Gazprom have for the moment refused to comment on the news.
