Rolls-Royce is to replace up to 40 of the 80 Trent 900 engines on Airbus A380s in operation globally at the moment.
It follows the mid-air blow out earlier this month of a Qantas Airbus engine which forced the superjumbo to make an emergency landing in Singapore. The plane had 459 passengers and crew on board.
After tests the Australian airline grounded its fleet of A380s. So far no date has been set for the aircraft’s return to service.
Currently, Qantas, Singapore Airlines and Lufthansa are the only carriers with Rolls-Royce engines powering their A380 fleets.
