Police in India say at least 32 people have been killed and 60 injured as a four-storey building collapsed in the capital Delhi.
Many more people were believed trapped under debris. Local residents used their bare hands to try to pull out survivors.
Rescue efforts were hampered as emergency vehicles found it hard to get through the narrow alleys of the congested residential area in the east of the city.
It is not known what caused the accident but the authorities have promised an inquiry.
One official has said the foundations of the old building may have been weakened by unusually heavy monsoon rains.
Poor construction is often blamed for building collapses in India.
