Muslims head to Mount Arafat in Hajj climax

Making the journey to Arafat is at the heart of the annual Hajj pilgrimage. And on day two of one of the world’s biggest displays of mass religious devotion, Muslims from all over the world are heading for the sacred Mount.

En route from Mecca, nearly three million pilgrims are making the journey to the place where the Prophet Mohammed is said to have given his final sermon. It is believed the last passage of the Koran was revealed to him there.

Islam is now embraced by a quarter of the world’s population and hajj is a duty for all able-bodied Muslims who can afford it.
