Eight dead in Shanghai skyscraper blaze


Eight people have died after a skyscraper caught fire in the Chinese city of Shanghai on Monday.

The 30-storey building was being renovated when it caught fire at 7:00 CET. Thick smoke could be seen bellowing across the Shanghai skyline.

Witnesses told the state-run CCTV that they had seen people jumping from the windows of the blazing building.

Dozens of fire engines are at the scene trying to keep the blaze under control. The cause of the fire is as yet unclear.
