Queen Elizabeth II adds regal face to Facebook

On coins, on notes and now on Facebook as Queen Elizabeth II signs up to the world’s most popular social networking site.

Add the British Monarchy Facebook page to the royal photo-sharing site Flickr and Twitter and you have a queen well versed in netiquette.

Robert Jobson is a commentator on all things royal:

“I don’t think you will be able to interact personally with Her Majesty, but in reality there will be all sorts of info and announcements and video and technology on Facebook so you can find out what’s going on in the Royal Family,” he says.

It appears that there are many royal watchers out there; as many as 41,000 users hit the page in the first hour of its launch.

The page features videos, speeches and the Court Circular, the official daily record of the royal family’s engagements that has been produced since 1803.

Getting an invite round to ‘Buck House’ for tea could prove difficult as it is not possible to become “friends” with the Queen or any of her relatives as the royal pages have strict privacy settings.
