The Rome Film Festival hosted films from around the world. Chinese film, The Back, stared Hu Bing and was directed by controversial director Liu Bingjian.
The film is set during the Cultural Revolution and tells the tale of a country boy who moves to the big city and goes to work in a fancy restautrant but his new life is haunted by scenes from the past.
The director, Liu Bingjian said: “The Cultural Revolution is not the most important part of my film. The main focus is Chinese society today. This obsession with making money and economic issues and the impact of this new obsession on ordinary people and the way they are somehow equally oppressed by these new problems.”
