Chinese President gets personal welcome from Nicolas Sarkozy

France has rolled out the red carpet to welcome Hu Jintao.

The Chinese President was met in person in Paris by Nicolas Sarkozy and his model wife Carla Bruni.

Full military honours have been accorded for the three-day visit, as well as a state dinner.

Hu Jintao is expected to sign-off a series of monumental business deals during his stay in the French capital.

Billions of euros-worth of contracts ranging from plane deals with Airbus to energy deals with nuclear specialists Areva await his signature.

He might be keen to boost investment, but Sarkozy will also want to build common ground to bolster his plans to reform the global monetary system during France’s upcoming presidency of the G20.

But not everyone is happy to see the Chinese arrive.

There have already been protests in activists who say Beijing’s record on human rights is being ignored.
