In the governors’ elections, out of 37 seats up for grabs, 20 have been won by Republicans, and 7 by the Democrats.
One of the most flamboyant campaigns was in California between “Governor Moonbeam” Jerry Brown and Meg Whitman, a millionaire businesswoman who spent an eye-watering $160 million of her e-bay bucks on her campaign. Jerry Brown beat her by around 6% points, and will know his way around the governor’s office very well having first occupied it back in the 1970s.
Still in California, the proposal to make smoking canabis was thrown out, many pundits joking that this was because if it were made legal, there wouldn’t be enough organic stuff to go round. It was also pointed out that the drug is de facto legal in any case as people consuming small amounts of canabis in California are rarely prosecuted.
Meanwhile in Oklahoma, the electorate voted to ban Sharia law. This follows spurious allegations by various Tea Party stars that Sharia Law is already operating in US States including
Tennessee and Michigan.
