Supporters of the Iranian woman sentenced to death by stoning, gathered outside an EU building in Rome. It is believed that Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani could now be hanged for murder on Wednesday. The previously planned execution by stoning of the mother of two caused a worldwide outcry.
The news that she could be hanged on Wednesday came from a German-based campaign group called the International Committee Against Stoning. However, Iranian authoritees have not confirmed or denied that.
In August, Iranian state television showed footage of a woman they claimed was Sakineh, confessing to knowing about the plot to kill her husband. Amnesty International condemned the interview.
Earlier in the year, protests against her stoning took place in cities all over the world. Sakineh, who is 43 years old, has already received 99 lashes, after being found guilty of adultery and complicity in the murder of her husband.
