Berlusconi comment angers gays

As the pressure on Silvio Berlusconi continues to mount, the Italian Prime Minister has now angered homosexuals, with a comment defending his admiration for pretty women.
Speaking at a motorcycle show in Milan, Berlusconi said: “When I’m in the presence of a beautiful girl, I look at her. It is better to have a passion for beautiful girls than to be gay.”
The 17-year-old girl at the centre of the storm has been identified in the media only by the name Ruby. It is alleged that she attended parties at Berlusconi’s villa in Arcore near Milan.
One newspaper reported that the prime minister improperly intervened on her behalf when she was arrested in May. Now other papers are predicting a growing scandal, and the downfall of Berlusconi and his political party.
A former Milan police chief has been questioned by prosecutors over his actions after Ruby was arrested – though he claims the proper procedures were followed.
