Drama off screen is continuing to attract most of the headlines over the Rome film festival.
The opening ceremony was marked by a protest over the Italian government’s drastic cuts to funds for cultural events. Measures Italian actress Valeria Golino believes are unforgivable.
“They think that culture and entertainment in a time of crisis is not necessary, we think it is.” she said.
The red carpet treatment is however expected to be rolled out in honour of the 50th anniversary of Federico Fellini’s La Dolce Vita.
Director Martin Scorsese is the guest of honour to present a digitally restored version of the 1960 classic film.
