More than 400 people are now known to have been killed in the tsunami which struck Indonesia’s Mentawai Islands on Monday.
Help is starting to reach some of the three hundred or so people injured but emergency services, surprised by the sudden tidal wave are struggling to cope.

Some 4,000 people have been displaced by the tsunami. Entire villages flattened or washed off the face of the earth.
Although some people have been allowed to return to what’s left of their homes, some experts warn the threat remains high of further undersea eruptions.
