Chile's rescued miners enjoy presidential party

It was a reception fit for royals or rock stars. But these global media figures are different.

Chile’s miracle miners have been receiving the ultimate red carpet treatment.

The nation is continuing to give thanks that the men survived their underground ordeal. And, inviting the 33 to his presidential palace, Sebastian Pinera celebrated their rescue.

The last to be brought to the surface, Luis Urzua, said: “I have the honour of being here with my 32 comrades. The work was hard, during those 70 days of emotion, sacrifice and pain. Thanks to Chile, thanks to all the Chilean people.”

Today the miners received top awards from President Pinera. Tomorrow book and movie deals beckon.
