The expulsion of Roma from France created much debate in Europe. They are mostly from Romania and Bulgaria, and are therefore European citizens, for whom freedom of movement is guaranteed by treaty. But is freedom of mobility in Europe a reality or is it an unfulfilled aspiration in a treaty text somewhere?

A member of Portugal’s parliament, José Pacheco Pereira, and the head of the Pierre Werner Institute in Luxembourg (promoting intra-European understanding), Mario Hirsch, came together to discuss integration and migration.

This was organised with the Jeune Chambre Economique in the Grand Duchy. The presence of Roma people in France and elsewhere has focused renewed attention.
