French refinery workers choke off oil supplies


French oil refinery workers are tightening their grip on the country’s petrol supplies as their union intensifies the fight against unpopular pension reforms.

All 12 refineries have ceased production with protesters blocking access at many fuel distribution depots across the country.

The knock-on effect for air travel means Orly airport in Paris is being asked to reduce flights by 50 per cent with all others, nationwide, cutting flights by 30 per cent.

Petrol and diesel supplies at hundreds of France’s 12,500 petrol stations have dried up due to a combination of panic buying and reduced deliveries.
