How to cope with the trauma of conflict? According to one Israeli photographer the answer is: send in Spiderman.

The comic crime fighter is the subject of a new exhibition in Tel Aviv, popping up in various places around the world that are significant to Jewish history, from Berlin to Jerusalem.

Why? The locations symbolise conflict and are disturbing to Jewish people, says David Kassman, whose work it is. Who better than the comic superhero with the special spider-sense to save the situation?

While Spiderman was the photographer’s childhood hero, as an adult it was his brother Ran, an Israeli soldier.

In the pictures they merge: Ran Kassman donned the comic character’s costume, which helped him deal with his own traumatic experience of the 2006 Lebanon war.
