Foreigners arrested in Iran over Sakineh interview

Two foreign nationals have reportedly been arrested in Iran after interviewing the son of Sakineh Ashtiani, the woman threatened with death by stoning.

The Iranian news agency said the pair were posing as reporters, and came into the country on tourist visas. A British newspaper reports that they were German reporters from the Bild am Sonntag newspaper.

Sakineh Ashtiani’s sentence of death by stoning for adultery has been suspended amid international condemnation and widespread demonstrations.

Sakineh is also accused of involvement in the murder of her husband, and officials say they are still reviewing her case.
