Wife of Chinese Nobel winner “detained”

world news

A US human rights group claims Chinese authorities are detaining the wife of jailed dissident and Nobel Peace Price laureate Liu Xiaobo at her home in Beijing.

The group Freedom Now says Liu Xia has not been charged with a crime.

But it says sources in China say she has not been allowed to leave her home or use her mobile phone after visiting her husband in jail to tell him about his award.

Freedom Now says when he heard the news Liu Xiaobo cried and dedicated the Nobel to the pro-democracy demonstrators killed in Tiananmen Square in 1989.
