A passenger ferry was continuing to burn in the Baltic Sea on Saturday after an explosion on board.

More than 200 passengers and crew were rescued, with some 20 people slightly injured.

The Lithuanian ship, the Lisco Gloria, was travelling from a German city to a port in Lithuania.

Authorities say while investigations still have to be carried out, the explosion does appear to have been an accident.

Another passenger boat and a police vessel were nearby at the time of the accident and helped rescue passengers in the water or on lifeboats.

Three people had to be flown to hospital by helicopter.
