French maritime authorities said on Friday that a chemical tanker is in difficulty off France’s north-western coast after an apparent collision with another ship.
The coastguard in Brest says there is no visible pollution in the water.
The ship’s 13 crew members were evacuated from the vessel by helicopter.
The boat was sailing under a Maltese flag and was carrying 6,000 metric tons of solvent.
The incident happened 100 kilometres southwest of the island of Ouessant.
