Greenpeace Dumps Nuclear Waste in Brussels

Greenpeace activists have dumped nuclear waste outside the European Parliament in Brussels in protest at EU plans on nuclear waste disposal.
The waste samples are not classed as radioactive and Greenpeace was therefore able to gather them from unsecured open sites in the UK, Belgium and Nigeria. If the same waste was packed into sealed containers, it would be classified as radioactive and have to be buried.
Michele Rivasi, a Green MEP said: “I think this action by Greenpeace shows… that we have not solved the problem of radioactive nuclear waste, and as long as we haven’t resolved this problem, we can’t develop nuclear power all over the world.”
The European Parliament is due to discuss nuclear waste disposal next month but Greenpeace said that even buried nuclear waste is not safe -and could leak into the water supply irreversibly damaging people’s health.
