Real IRA planted Derry City car bomb

The Real IRA has claimed responsIbility for an overnight car bomb attack in Derry City.

No one was injured in the blast, which exploded one hour after police received a warning.

Dozens of homes were evacuated around Culmore Road one of Derry’s busiest thoroughfares.

Colm Eastwood is the city’s mayor:

“ These people profess to love their country, yet they spend their time trying to destroy it. If they’re Irish Republicans they should listen to the will of the Irish people that is clearly saying to move forward, to try and achieve your means through peaceful and democratic ways. There is no other solution to this problem.”

Martin McGuinness the former senior commander of the IRA and now deputy first minister in the Northern Ireland Assembly described the bombers as “conflict junkies” and “neanderthals.”
