The stars came out for the Eurasia Film Festival in Almaty Kazakhstan. French veteran actor Gerard Depardieu was the guest of honour at the festival and promoted his film The Late Love.

He said that he was “particularly proud of having shot this film in Kazakstan in a region that I didn’t know well and in which people hadn’t even seen a cine-camera before or even a Frenchman before…”

The prize for best film was won by “The Light Thief” which was written by, directed by and acted in by
Aktan Aryn Kubat. The film is about an electrician with a surprising effect on his customers. In effect, he invents a wind powered generator and solves a global problem.

Andrey Merzlikin won the best actor prize for his role in Strayed, a film about a man who accidentally looses his family.

Darya Gorshkaleva won best actress for her part in the film Garsterbeiter.

And Kevin Costner took to the stage, guitar in hand with his band Modern West.
