Tony Curtis, one of Hollywood’s best known actors, has died. He was 85.
A spokesman for his family says he passed away in his sleep at his home in Nevada.
Famed for his boyish good looks and impish grin, Curtis made more than 140 films, mixing comedies and dramas.
One of his most famous performances came in “Some Like It Hot” as he teamed up with Jack Lemmon opposite Marilyn Monroe, with whom he is said to have had an affair.
Other notable films included “Houdini,” “The Defiant Ones” for which he was Oscar nominated and “Spartacus”.
Curtis was also industrious off screen. A renowed womaniser, he married six times. His last wife, Jill Vanderberg, was 45 years younger than him.
As his acting career waned, Curtis concentrated on painting, once selling more than a million euros worth of his art during the first day of a 1989 exhibition in Los Angeles.
