Polish unions join protests over budget cuts

Wet and windy weather did nothing to deter Poles from demonstrating against their government’s belt-tightening measures.

Marching under the motto “No to budget cuts, yes to job security and economic growth”, thousands rallied in central Warsaw demanding better pay and an end to moves to raise sales tax.

Poland is the only EU member to have recorded growth last year, despite the global economic crisis.
