Anti-austerity protests take over Brussels

world news

| |

Tens of thousands of people have taken to the streets of the Belgian capital ahead of a march on EU institutions.

As in other European cities, the protestors aim to deliver a firm message – “no to austerity measures” introduced by national government.

It is the biggest demonstration Brussels has seen since 2001 when trade unions organised a rally for more social protection policies across the bloc.

It follows yesterday’s wildcat strike by air traffic controllers which caused the cancellations of all flights in and out of Brussels.
