It looks like Hertz will end up buying car rental firm Dollar Thrifty despite a higher bid from Avis.
Dollar Thrifty has rejecting Avis latest takeover offer, which was about four percent higher than the deal it had agreed with Hertz.
The company said it supports the lower offer because it feels Avis would have difficulty in getting approval from competition regulators.
Hertz is thought to have a clearer path to getting approval because it mostly focuses on more expensive segments of the car rental market. Avis already has a budget brand that competes with Dollar Thrifty.
Dollar Thrifty shareholders are due to vote on the deal on Thursday.
