Chavez party win Venezuelan parliamentary poll

Early indications are that the party of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has won a majority in the country’s parliamentary election.

The opposition has reportedly got at least a third of seats in the 165-seat assembly.

Though the Socialists look set to retain a majority, Chavez had set the goal of winning two thirds, meaning the opposition will regard their showing — if confirmed — as a victory.
