Romanian police protest over salary cuts

Thousands of Romanian police officers have been protesting over wage cuts and austerity measures.

Police officers earn between two and three hundred and fifty euros a month depending on their length of service – not enough they say to live on.

20…sot.. “We cannot carry on like this” complained this police woman. “We can’t send our kids to school with what they need. The president should be ashamed for what he’s doing to us.”

32..sot.. “Families are struggling under mountains of debt and they’re desperate. We can’t afford the basics.”

42… The demonstration is the third of its kind this week against government plans which include slashing public sector pay by a quarter and also raising sales tax.

On Wednesday, some 10,000 people protested against the government.
