Georgia slams 2014 Winter Olympics

A sporting facelift of the Russian riviera has already begun as Sochi prepare for the 2014 Winter Olympics.

But the construction has come under fire by Georgia who have insisted the extraction of natural materials in pro-Russia’s Abkhazie territory will accelerate the deterioration of the Black sea coastline.

Sochi is located a few kilometres north of the Russian-Georgian border and the investment plan for the Games includes construction of a Russia-shaped island in the Black Sea, approximately 250 sports facilities in Sochi, while 40 new hotels in Anapa have also been planned.
