Daimler has dismissed a newspaper report that it has been talking to Fiat about buying the Italian firm’s truck and tractor business.
Analysts said the German luxury car and commercial lorry maker would probably only be interest in the Iveco truck unit rather than all of Fiat Industrial and that there would be problems with competition regulators – particularly in Europe – if it bought that.
Fiat Industrial is due to be spun off into a separate company in early 2011 before being sold.
