Severe flooding in Italy and Croatia

world news

| |

Heavy flooding has struck parts of Italy, including the centre of Milan. Firefighters have been called in to rescue some motorists who were trapped in their vehicles.

One car fell into a hole close to where a new underground subway line is being built.

One nearby resident said: “The underground river rises every time it rains. I’d like to know who will get on this subway line. They would end up drowned rats.”

Some subway stations were closed down because of the flooding.

Heavy rain and flooding has also hit western and central Croatia.

People have been evacuated from their homes in some villages west of Zagreb.

With river levels on the rise, rainfall that caused heavy flooding in Slovenia made its way towards Croatia.

Alerts have been issued in numerous areas.
