A Hamas militant has been shot dead by Israeli soldiers in a refugee camp near the West Bank town of Tulkarm.
Iyad Shilbayeh was killed during an attempt to arrest him – the Israeli military said the soldiers opened fire when he approached them, despite being told to halt.
Israel has been searching for suspects in the killing of four of their soldiers near Hebron last month.
Meanwhile border crossings between the West Bank and Israel have been shutdown for the duration of the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur.
West Bank closures during religious holidays have become standard practice in recent years due to concerns that militants might take advantage of festivals to carry out attacks in Israel – Yom Kippur is the holiest day on the Jewish religious calendar.
