UK dole queues lengthen as recession looms UK jobless figures grew unexpectedly in August, sneaking up by just over 2000, and confounding analysts’ average forecasts of a drop of 3000.
It was the first rise in jobless claims in seven months, and indicates a weakening job market ahead of next month’s budget cuts, which are expected to slash public sector spending by a quarter in Britain’s stiffest dose of austerity since the second world war.
