The UK press has published a letter from the Department of Energy criticising BP’s safety training in the North Sea. It is the latest setback for the company that styles itself as “Beyond Petrol” nowadays, but whose image has been battered by the Gulf of Mexico spill this year. Last week BP’s own probe into the disaster admitted responsibility but accused drilling contractor Transocean and Halliburton of also being to blame.
