Clinton and Mubarak meet ahead of crucial peace talks

USA Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak were first to meet ahead of the second round of crucial Middle East peace talks.

Their first round of talks on 2nd of September kick started the process after a 20 month hiatus. There remains an impasse over Israeli settlement building in the West Bank that threatens to scupper the two days of talks. Clinton has said both sides need to take action to resolve the disagreement.

Israel had imposed a partial freeze on the construction work now it is due to expire at the end of this month. The Palestinians say they will quit the talks unless the moratorium is extended.
